Shared Vision is a programme of formation for teachers and support staff in the Jesuit schools of the British Province. It aims to communicate the Jesuit tradition of education and to encourage awareness and understanding of Jesuit identity and misson.
"Lay people need to have an understanding of Ignatian spirituality , of Jesuit educational history and traditions, and Jesuit life. The Jesuit school provides programmes to encourage a growing awareness and understanding of the aims of Jesuit education."
(The Characteristics of Jesuit Education n.153)
There are four stages to the Shared Vision programme:
Shared Vision Induction (SVi) consists of five 75-minute sessions and is delivered in the schools to new teaching and support staff by trained presenters. Schools will generally deliver the first four sessions at the start of the school year and session five towards the end of the school year when new staff have some experience of living and working in a Jesuit school.
The five sessions of SVi are:
1. Catholic Education and Jesuit Schools
2. Meet Ignatius
3. Jesuit Mission in Education
Our School - A Jesuit School
The Spirit of Jesuit Education
Resources for SVi are available online and in hard copy from the Jesuit Institute.
Shared Vision 1 (SV1) is a two-day residential course for teachers and support staff who have been working in a Jesuit school for at least a year or more. SV1 aims to explore the story of Jesuit schools, the characteristics of Jesuit education, and the identity and mission of Jesuit schools.
The sessions of SV1 are:
2. The Story of Jesuit Schools
3. The Wider Picture
4. Jesuit Identity and Mission
5. The Jesuit Pupil Profile
6. The Spirit of Jesuit Education
SV1 conferences run three times a year, usually at Campion Hall Oxford. Details are on the conferences page.
Shared Vision 2 (SV2) is also a two-day residential course for teachers and teaching assistants who have been working in a Jesuit school for at least a year or more. It is possible to do SV2 before SV1 as they have different content. SV2 aims to explore the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (IPP) - the distinctively Jesuit method of teaching and learning.
The sessions of SV2 are:
1. Teaching in the Tradition of Ignatius
The Art of Being Attentive to Experience
3. The Practice of Reflective Teaching
Forming ActiveAgents of Change
5. Ignatian Pedagogy
SV2 conferences run three times a year, usually at Campion Hall Oxford. Details are on the conferences page.
Shared Vision 3 (SV3) is a two-day residential course which aims to train senior staff and school chaplains to deliver Shared Vision Induction (SVi) in their own schools. SV3 looks at the SVi material in greater depth and explores the best ways of engaging new staff with the material such that they understand and can contribute to the Jesuit identity and mission of their schools.
SV3 conferences are run every three years. Details are on the conferences page.
