Steps

1

Read Matthew 8:23-27 and build up a picture in your mind of Jesus and the disciple in a boat out on Lake Galilee.

‘Then he got into the boat followed by his disciples. Without warning a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the waves were breaking right over the boat. But he was asleep. So they went to him and woke him saying, ‘Save us, Lord, we are going down!’ And he said to them, ‘Why are you so frightened, you men of little faith?’ And with that he stood up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and all was calm again. The men were astounded and said, ‘Whatever kind of man is this? Even the winds and sea obey him.’’

2

Imagine a great tempest arising while Jesus sleeps in the stern of the boat.

Imagine the frightened disciples wakening Jesus and listen as he responds saying, ‘Why are you afraid? You have such little faith!'

Imagine Jesus commanding the winds and the sea to cease and watch as the sea becomes calm.

Imagine the marvel of the disciples as they say, ‘What sort of man is that, that even the winds and the sea obey him?’

3

As you finish your prayer, speak to Jesus about what you have witnessed. Ask for whatever it is that you need as you move ahead.
